Spring Sewing Classes
As soon as the tulips start to appear and evenings get lighter, my mind fills with all of the things I'd like to make for the summer. I plan for holidays - that ever elusive capsule wardrobe that 'seasoned packers' promote in every magazine - when in reality they're probably checking in an over sized case-full! I think about lazy days in the garden, living in shorts and slouchy t-shirts. Imaginary picnics in a beautiful fit and flare 50s style dress (my reality is never as glam and I'm more of a fish'n'chips on the beach kind of girl!) But it's fun to daydream.
I'm guessing that some of you might have got the itch to stitch - especially with the Sewing Bee back on our TVs, so I've put some new classes on the website. I've also put up another date for the Shirt Skill Builder class that sold out almost immediately when I first posted it. This new date is Tuesday 7th May (10am - 4pm). It is a great way to take your sewing to the next level and covers the main skills you need when making any shirt (for men or women). We will be working with calico - so you are free to experiment without worrying about special fabric.
My after school stitch clubs are going from strength to strength - the girls amaze me with their newfound skills and creativity. So I have decided to introduce an 'After School-Run Stitch Club' for the grown ups that would like to get in on the act! It's going to run from 9.30-11.30am on Thursdays during term time and will cost £15 per session. You will need to sign up for a full half term so that we can all work through the same project. The first block runs 25th April - 16th May (4 sessions costing a total of £60). As with the after school club, there will be only 4 spaces - so pop me an email if you are interested. sewjobaker@gmail.com.
Other classes open for booking include the classic Breton top (May 29th) and creating your perfect fit tunic toile (calico is provided - please bring your own Tunic Bible!) (17th May).
If you have a specific project in mind - I am very happy to work with you on either a 1:1 basis (charged at £15 per hour, for a minimum of 2 hours) or in a group (it's £10 per hour per person for groups of 2 or more). You can chose a pattern and we can work through it together - you will learn new skills along the way.
Happy Sewing!
