New Jeans

I love looking at pics of new styles and I've recently become fascinated by all of the new styles of jeans. High waisted, super flared, mom-jeans, carrot, balloon, low waisted, boyfriend...the list seems to grow every month. As someone who makes most of her clothes, jeans are a big investment both in terms of materials and time. So trying a new style could be a risky waste of resources. So...I'm going shopping! I'm going to take a trip to the big city and try on EVERYTHING. And I'm really excited about this.

I'm fairly short (5'2") and most of the photos of these new styles are on long-legged lovelies - it will interesting to see how they look on me. I will report back on my thoughts and plans for sewing up some new style wardrobe essentials.
I came of age jeans wise in the Nick Kamen Levis 501s era and we were combing the vintage stores in Covent Garden for a suitably distressed pair to go with our white t-shirt, chunky black belt and Doc Martins. Suddenly, department store jeans were no longer good enough.

The next phase I remember were those indecently low rise boot cuts (we were treated to the occasional thong on display - the horror of it!) Fortunately, I had my first born about this time - so maternity jeans were more my thing. Thank goodness there are no surviving photos of my low rise era. I then got into the delights of skinny jeans which seemed to hold everything in (spandex let me count the ways I love thee) although they also gave rise to the muffin top (well all that extra flesh had to go somewhere)
Since then, I've settled into a mid rise, gentle boot cut with an occasional straight cut thrown in for variety. But I wear my jeans A LOT. Its the every day wardrobe staple with a nice top or a jumper, isn't it? When I was a teenager, I always swore that I would never become one of those ladies who wore the same shade of eye shadow for the rest of her life - and I think this applies to jeans too. I don't want to get stuck in a period of time so am challenging myself to a jeans revamp.
Have you tried any of the new jeans styles? What did you think?
Happy Sewing and Happy Shopping too!
Jo xx
