Sewing Friends #1

Last week I spent a lovely morning meeting with Kirsty and Lee of The Fabric Fox. It is so wonderful to spend time in the company of other sewing and fabric enthusiasts. The Fabric Fox ethos is to provide good quality, colourful fabrics for modern makers. This was born of a love of such fabrics from Kirsty – but a struggle to get hold of exactly what she wanted. Straight from university, she started importing and selling fabrics (mum helped out with the spare bedroom as a warehouse!) and the business has grown from there. Kirsty and Lee got married last year (check out their blog for some bea-u-tiful bridesmaids dresses made from Art Gallery Fabrics and they now run the business from their home in Halstead, Essex.

I was really excited to hear that they are expanding into jersey fabrics in the next few months – and I will be helping Kirsty to learn how to sew with knit fabrics so that we can make some amazing samples with their new Cotton and Steel choices. I can’t wait to see what they have chosen as Kirsty has such a great eye for colour, as you can see from the fabrics I have shown. My current personal favourite is the Christmas Llama fabric – and I will be ordering 2m right away for a pair of Christmas PJs and matching stocking!

Kirsty has always been more of a crafter / quilter and is now keen to develop her knowledge further on the dressmaking side of things. She is going to come to my Kimono dressing gown class on the 1st December to start this journey. This is a great class to begin with – you really don’t need any previous sewing experience and you will come away with an elegant kimono dressing gown and your own paper pattern, cut to your measurements, to make more in the future. This robe is perfect for wafting around the house on Christmas morning (or indeed any morning) looking gorgeous!
